Sonangol Marine Services Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sonangol E.P., the Angolan state-owned oil company responsible for the exploration, production, manufacturing, transportation and marketing of hydrocarbons in Angola.  The continuing development of Angola’s petroleum resources and the necessity to increase Sonangol E.P.’s representation in the international market were key factors leading Sonangol E.P. to invest in maritime transportation assets and the eventual creation of Sonangol Marine Services Inc. in 2010 to manage these assets.  

 

 

 

Sonangol Marine Services delivers services to, and on behalf of, Sonangol E.P. by providing marine technical, commercial and management oversight of Sonangol E.P.’s ten suezmax tankers (each capable of loading 1 million barrels of crude oil) and three LNG carriers (each capable of loading 160,000 cubic meters of LNG).  Sonangol Marine Services Inc. employs approximately 25 individuals in the United States.

 

 

 

Sonangol E.P.’s suezmax tankers are commercially operated in the Stena Sonangol Suezmax Pool and technically managed by Wallem Shipmanagement Ltd. and International Tanker Management (ITM).  Sonangol E.P.’s LNG Carriers are time-chartered to Angola LNG Supply Services and technically managed by Chevron Shipping Company.
